The Citrus College Vocal Music Department is one of the most enterprising
music departments in the United States. With a notable standard
of excellence in performance and education, our students, educators,
and ensembles have received high acclaim from professionals within
the music industry and audiences throughout the world.
Our mission is to educate, train and help students develop the
necessary skills to excel in the vast world of vocal music. We succeed.
Department alumni include Broadway and film performers, studio vocalists,
composers, conductors, and music educators. The faculty combine
educational expertise with professional insight, giving students
a uniquely comprehensive experience. Staff members include well-known
and respected industry professionals in the Los Angeles area.
Citrus offers a diverse range of performance groups designed to
accommodate each student’s stylistic preferences. Rhapsody
in Rhythm is a highly decorated women’s ensemble.
Our Concert Choir and Vocal
Ensemble are large mixed choirs ideal for those with an
ear towards classical music. Both the Pop
Rock and Salsa/Cumbia
ensembles feature vocalists as well as instrumental performers.
In the Musical Theatre
Department, vocal students participate in productions such as Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The Music Man
and Me and My Girl. The Citrus
Singers Program combines multiple genres of vocal music,
with dance and acting to create a conservatory-style program. The
Citrus Singers have performed pop music for President George Bush
Sr. in Las Vegas, musical theatre reviews in Hawaii, and are the
only American choir to ever win the prestigious International Choral
Festival in Spittal, Austria.
In addition to performance groups, Citrus offers classes in vocal
technique for students of any level. Vocal music students also
have the opportunity to study privately with one of our outstanding
voice teachers through the Applied
Music Program.
Whatever musical aspirations the student chooses to pursue, the
Citrus College Vocal Music Department and faculty can help establish
goals and offer the tools essential for success.
