“Through my experience in Citrus
Singers, studying with instructors Douglas Austin, John Vaughan
and Ben Bollinger, I received a majority of the training that

“Recently, I had to do a presentation
for 350 people at a medical company. I walked out on stage
and, instead of getting nervous, I got that old ‘Citrus
Singer surge’ of excitement. The skills work in business
as will as stage performing. Business audiences still like
to be entertained. They like to be involved. They like to
be surprised.”

“I have never worked harder in my
entire life than in Citrus Singers, and I loved every minute
of it!! It prepared me for the professional music world, and
I will always be grateful. As an elementary vocal music teacher
in Rowland Unified, I try to instill the love of good music
in my students. I will never forget my years at Citrus College.

The Citrus Singers
Internationally renowned and universally admired, the Citrus Singers
program is the ultimate hybrid of music education and professional
performance exposure. Founded in 1968 by Ben D. Bollinger, the vision
of the Citrus Singers is to cultivate, refine, and develop talent,
preparing students to ascend to the highest ranks of the music industry.
The distinctiveness of the program is the training in a variety
of musical disciplines. Students receive instruction in classical
choral technique, pop vocal styles, dance, and musical theatre.
Versatility has become the hallmark of Citrus Singers in the professional
world. Former Singers include teachers, conductors and industry
professionals. Many are currently performing on Broadway, in Las
Vegas, on cruise ships, at Disney and Universal theme parks worldwide,
and in concert halls and theatres throughout the United States and
Europe.
Key to the Singers’ success is the unique diversity of instruction.
Under the direction of Douglas Austin
(Shrope), the students attend daily classes in choral singing,
vocal technique, and Musical Theatre
performance methods. They also participate in dance classes with
the Singers’ choreographer, John
Vaughan, learning Ballet, Jazz, and Commercial dance styles.
In addition to classes, the Citrus Singers program immerses students
in a professional performance atmosphere that is unparalleled
in colleges today. The Singers are immediately able to transfer
their training to practical application, participating in productions
of Christmas Is…, A Night Of Music From Film and their
annual Spring Pop Show in the Haugh
Performing Arts Center, choral concerts for country clubs
throughout Southern California, popular music reviews at venues
such as the Disneyland Grand Hotel and the Los Angeles County Fair,
performance tours to Europe, South America, and Asia, as well as
bookings at the finest hotels in Hawaii.
The Citrus Singers program offers fantastic opportunities to develop
skills and meet a wide variety of educational goals. But most importantly,
Citrus Singers offers a student the opportunity to grow personally,
supported by talented, creative, and hard-working people; to have
fun while being challenged daily to become excellent.
“To join Citrus Singers is to join the
Citrus Singer family. You laugh, you cry, and you struggle with
one mind toward one goal: to achieve greatness … together.”
