MUSIC

For the past several decades, Citrus College’s music program has been a recognized leader in education and performance. Utilizing innovative methods, stressing classical training and solid fundamentals, our Vocal, Instrumental, Theory and History and Musical Theatre programs consistently develop successful performers and educators.

Groups like the Concert Choir and the Sierra Wind Symphony expose students to the finest literature while expanding the traditional ideology to include exciting and original performances such as A Night of Music from Film. Completing this solid foundation are numerous vocal and instrumental groups, which serve to reinforce this important classical foundation.

Continuing to develop the aspiring musicians’ diversity and marketability, Citrus College has created visionary and exciting ensembles such as the The Citrus Singers, Blue Note Swing Orchestra and Night Shift. These ensembles expand the student’s performance skills and repertoire to include the finest Jazz, Pop, Rock and Latin .

Citrus College was one of the first Community Colleges in the United States to develop an applied music/individual study program, allowing instrumental and vocal students the opportunity to receive private lessons from the finest professional musicians in Los Angeles. Citrus’ applied program has become a model for both two and four year institutions.

Our students perform throughout the world and have received critical acclaim and numerous awards including Grammy nominations, downbeat awards as well as countless national and international festival honors.
This summer, Citrus will be hosting the Citrus Summer Conservatory, designed for High School and College students interesting in Musical Theatre, Summer Instrumental Music Academy and Dance Conservatory.

Citrus College studios have afforded student ensembles the opportunity to record with nationally recognized guest artists, perform on sound tracks for television commercials and motion pictures. Annually, thousands of patrons attend musical events at the Haugh Performing Arts Center including Christmas Is…, our annual spring musical and the Battle of the Big Bands.

As a student attending Citrus College, you will soon come to realize that dreams do come true. We welcome you to our website and encourage you to explore all we have to offer.

Nothing is as real as a dream.
The world can change around you,
but your dream will not.
Responsibilities need not erase it.
Duties need not obscure it.
Because the dream is within you,
no one can take it away.
