SYMPHONIC/CHAMBER ENSEMBLES

The Sierra Wind Symphony of Citrus College

Formed in 2001, The Sierra Wind Symphony has grown to provide Citrus College instrumental musicians an opportunity to explore the most sophisticated, challenging and expressive wind band music at the highest levels of professionalism. Each October this dynamic symphonic ensemble presents A Night of Music from Film, a unique and exciting production for which The Sierra Wind Symphony’s instrumentation is enhanced to include a string section, vocalists, a large concert choir, a rhythm section, sound effects and whatever else is required to perform live with the projection (on an auditorium sized screen) of footage from blockbuster motion pictures films that we have selected to delight our audience. Each Spring the Wind Symphony presents Sounds, Shapes and Shades, a musical/visual experiment of the artistic synthesis of the performance of beautiful and stylistic wind band literature, expressive contemporary choreography provided by Citrus College dance talent, and Citrus College lighting designer Dan Volonte’s creative and intriguing stagecraft magic. The instrumentalists in the Wind Symphony also enjoy the benefits of studio performance by recording frequently in the world class Citrus College recording studios. The ensemble’s first CD The Girl with the Flaxen Hair was released in 2003 and the Wind Symphony is nearing the completion of their next CD, ’Twas the Night Before Christmas. The Sierra Wind Symphony of Citrus College is managed and conducted by Bill Hoehne.
