JAZZ ENSEMBLES
The Blue Note Swing Orchestra is known internationally as one of
the premier jazz ensembles in the United States. Founded by Robert
Slack, the group has a diverse history in which they have recorded
for major motion pictures and commercials, received honors by receiving
invitations and winning many festivals throughout the U.S. and Europe.
The Blue Note Swing Orchestra regularly travels to Japan and is
the summer house band at the Hyatt
Regency in Maui.
The group also records frequently in the world class Citrus College
studios where they recorded their
prestigious Down Beat
award winning album “A Tribute to Duke Ellington”.
A large component of the ensemble’s success is the professional
environment in which it frequently functions. The Blue Note Swing
Orchestra is contracted to perform in many varied experiences ranging
from corporate parties, dances, backing up major artists and recordings
including the legendary Count Basie arranger and composer Sam
Nestico. Material that the group studies and performs ranges
broadly from classic to contemporary.
Fundamentals and attention to detail including musical style, phrasing,
intonation to the attire and image of the ensemble are highly stressed.
Students from the Blue Note Swing Orchestra have gone on to perform
with or on Broadway, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, No
Doubt, Green
Day, The Offspring,
Gwen Stefani, Las Vegas,
Carnival Cruise Lines, Branson Missouri, Japan, as well as other
artist/venues and areas of the entertainment industry, as well as
